Hi everyone,
As i was searching for multimedia on the rwandan genocide i came across this short video, i think it was made by a student, but it gives a pretty good overview of what happened in Rwanda with pictures and text narrative. Worth a look if you're doing the genocide question!

wow. that's a very emotional little film
the most upsetting thing for me is that kick in the guts at the end: "the most preventable genocide of our time"
thanks for finding this - sometimes i'm bit concerned that we've over-relied on "Ghosts of Rwanda" in looking at this issue/example
thanks for making this available. It refreshes my memories, and reinforces my commitment to working for my people.
I found this film very powerful also, especially with it being preventable. I like how you have used both text and video, catering for people who prefer different mediums. In Semester 1 i did a unit 'violence, the nation-state and terrorism.' For my assignment I compared the Holocaust to other genocides including Rwanda.
My figures came out at:
The Holocaust across the 7 year period:
•total death of 16,315,000 people
•An average of 2,330,714 people killed per year
•Two-thirds of European Jews and one-third of the world Jews were killed
•Of ‘the 30,000 Gypsies in Germany only 5000 survived the war,’ indicating that 83 per cent of Gypsies in Germany were killed
Compared to Rwanda which lasted 100 days:
•Total death of 937,000 Tutsis
•Estimates that as many as 10,000 Tutsis were killed each day
•As many as 14% of the population were slaughtered
•Ongoing slaughter in 1959, 1963-1964 and 1973 of the Tutsis by the Hutus
The scale of people killed in Rwanda per day was very large. It is very disheartening that this could have been prevented.
